How WeeklyBurn works

Getting your league roasting, what every feature does, and what to do when a platform stops cooperating.

Roast your league

Getting started

Set up your league in five minutes

Connecting a league walks you through these steps, a minute or two each. Everything after the first can be changed later.

  • Connect. Pick Sleeper, ESPN or Yahoo. Sleeper needs only your username. ESPN uses a bookmark you click on fantasy.espn.com. Yahoo asks you to log in once.
  • Customize your comedian. Choose how hot the roast runs: Inferno (the default, and genuinely harsh) or Frostbite (the same jokes with the temperature down). Then, if you want, who gets the heat and what is off limits.
  • Texts. Add a number and we text the link the moment each roast lands. Optional.
  • Scout. One word about each manager: what they do for a living, their team, what happened to them this year. This is the step that makes the roast. Skip it and Burnie roasts the scores without ever getting personal.
  • League Pass. Unlock every weekly roast for the season, or skip it and try your free roast first.

Get your league in here

Settings has an invite link. Send it to the group chat; anyone who opens it joins your league after signing up.

They do not need to connect anything themselves: your platform connection covers the whole league. They do not need to pay either. A League Pass is per league, not per person.

Who can do what?

Admins generate roasts, edit them, buy a League Pass, connect and reconnect platforms, and change league settings. The admin is whoever connected the league here, which is not necessarily your league's commissioner on ESPN or Sleeper.

Everyone in the league can read every recap, scout managers, buy the League Pass for the league, and see the leaderboard and team profiles.

Your week

What actually happens each week?

Your league finishes playing on Monday night. At 9am Tuesday, in your own timezone, WeeklyBurn reads the real results from your platform and writes the recap: the blowouts, the one-point losses, whoever left forty points on their bench.

It arrives by email and in the notification bell, and as a text if you have added a number. Every recap has a share link for the group chat.

With a League Pass you do not have to press anything. If a week ever fails to generate, the run retries the same afternoon before giving up.

Why Tuesday, and not Monday night?

Monday night games are still being played, and a recap written at 8pm Monday is about a week that has not finished. It would call the wrong winners.

A week is treated as final at 9am on the Tuesday after it started. That is also when the roast button appears for admins, and why margin pills and verdicts stay hidden while games are live.

Reading, sharing and editing a roast

Every recap has a share link. Drop it in the group chat; nobody needs an account to read it.

An admin can change a roast before the league sees it: open it and use Edit Recap. Your changes are saved to the recap itself, so the share link and anything you forward show the edited version. The AI writes about real people and occasionally lands somewhere you would rather it did not, and editing is faster than starting again.

Waiting on a roast

A roast takes a minute or two to write. You do not have to watch it: press Notify me when it's ready and carry on using the app. You get a notice in the bell the moment it lands.

Can I get the roast as a text?

Yes, on a paid league. Add a number in Settings and verify it, and we text the link the moment each recap lands.

One message a week, only when a recap is ready. Reply STOP to end it and HELP for help. Standard message rates apply.

A number that has not completed verification is never texted. An unverified number is either a typo or somebody else's line, and both mean texting a stranger.

Every feature

Customize your comedian

Settings → Roast Style. The roast mode sets how hot it runs. Customize your comedian sets the rest:

  • What Burnie talks about. Everything is on. Switch off what your league does not care about; Burnie still knows it, he just spends the recap somewhere else.
  • Who gets the heat. The losers, by default. You can turn it on everyone, the winners, bad decisions, bad performances, big personalities, or specific managers.
  • What is off limits. Sexual jokes, jokes about how they look, and insults about their intelligence are all allowed until you switch them off.

Changes apply to the next roast, never to one already written.

Scouting

The AI writes from the results plus whatever your league has told it about each manager. That is the single biggest thing you control: a scouted league's roasts are about people, an unscouted one's are about box scores.

Open the Teams page, pick a manager and use Scout. It takes about a minute. Once a manager is scouted, their Scouting report tab shows everything the league has said about them, and you can change any answer right there; it saves as you go.

Anybody in the league can scout, and more than one person can scout the same manager. Weekly roasts rotate through about a third of the league each week, so the same personal joke does not land two weeks running.

Awards and the Burn Board

Every weekly roast hands out awards: the best and worst of the week, named. The Leaderboard keeps the Burn Board (not for Yahoo leagues; see What is different for a Yahoo league?). The standings say who is winning; the Burn Board says who is having the most memorable season, and the two disagree about half the time.

The free roast

Every league gets one free roast. Not one per season: one, ever. You choose what it is spent on, from the weeks your league has finished playing.

A league that connects before its first week is over has nothing to spend it on yet, so it waits until Week 1 finishes. It is spent when the roast completes. A generation that fails costs you nothing, and it never expires.

League Pass

A League Pass unlocks every weekly roast for the whole league, all season, delivered automatically on Tuesday. It is $9.99 a month or $24.99 for the season.

One person pays and everyone in the league gets it. Nobody else needs an account or a card. The monthly plan stops on its own when the season ends, and you can cancel it any time.

A paid league can also roast last season, or get a welcome roast if it is brand new (Yahoo leagues always get the welcome roast); the dashboard offers it. Once your draft is done, it offers a draft roast too.

Questions

It is too mean. Or not mean enough.

Settings → Roast Style has the roast mode. Inferno is the default and it is genuinely harsh; Frostbite is the same jokes with the temperature down. Customize your comedian, on the same page, decides who gets the heat and what is off limits.

If something lands that should not have, use Feedback below and tell us exactly which recap.

What is different for a Yahoo league?

Yahoo's rules let us read your league to write each week's roast, and forbid keeping what we read. So a Yahoo league gets the weekly roast, awards, audio, editing and sharing like everyone else, and does not get the parts built from a league's history:

  • No leaderboard or Burn Board.
  • No By the numbers card on a roast.
  • No roast of last season. A Yahoo league that asks for one gets a welcome roast built from this season instead.
  • The AI remembers this season, read fresh each week, but not past ones.
  • Every roast is deleted 30 days after it is written, and its share link stops working then.

None of this is a setting we can change; it is the agreement Yahoo makes every app sign.

It says my platform is disconnected

Sleeper leagues use public ids and do not expire. ESPN and Yahoo use credentials that do.

ESPN cookies expire on their own schedule and there is nothing we can do to extend them. When that happens, Settings → Connected Platforms has the reconnect path, and the ESPN bookmark step must be done with fantasy.espn.com open in the same browser: the bookmarklet reads the cookies of the tab it is clicked on.

Nothing is lost while a league is disconnected. Recaps, scouting notes and history all stay; only new roasts are paused until it is reconnected.

If the account belongs to a league you are no longer in, Settings → Connected Platforms can forget it, and the app stops asking.

How do I cancel, and what happens to my stuff?

Settings → Subscription. A monthly pass keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then stops. It is not refunded for the current period.

Cancelling ends paid features for the whole league, since the pass covers the whole league. Everything already written stays readable.
